A Little Bit About Where We’re From

First off let me welcome all of y’all to the Wick and Blog! We want this section to be a way to share the stuff we’re passionate about with all of you guys. What better way to start off our blog than a post about Blairsville, the place we’re from and the place we love!

If you’ve never heard of or never been to Blairsville, I can’t really blame ya. It’s a small town up in Northeastern Georgia, founded in 1835, with a population of only about 616 people in its city limits. What Blairsville lacks in size it more than makes up for with its natural beauty. It’s hard to describe through words or even a photo, but the landscape up here has a way of sucking you in and keeps you thinking about it even after you leave. This area is so inspiring that we wanted to share it with people the way we knew how: our soaps and candles. We wanted to make designs and scents reminiscent of places we love in the Appalachians.

Beyond the natural beauty, there’s also some rich history in this area that you guys might find fascinating. I think everyone’s familiar with the California Gold Rush, but did you know that the first gold rush in the United States was right here in Georgia? It started in the Dahlonega area, however Blairsville also possessed some gold mines, one of which, the Coosa Mines, produced the highest quality gold of the time period.

We’re very happy we can call Blairsville our home, it is a truly amazing place with a lot of rich history and amazing scenery. If you’re ever up this way, make sure to come say hi at Sunrise Grocery!
