Many are familiar with John Muir's famous quote, "The mountains are calling and I must go," but not all know that Muir passed through the Appalachian Mountains & our home of Blairsville in 1867. In his book, A Thousand-Mile Walk to the Gulf, Muir stated that our Blue Ridge Mountains were "…very different from any I had passed...with an impressive view at any time and under any circumstances, but particularly so to one emerging from the mountains.”
